Free standing display cases do not need to be anchored to a wall or permanently attached to a floor, although this is commonly recommended. These are best for situations where a display case might need to be moved or rearranged often. For example, in exhibitions or temporary displays, a free standing display case might be the best option because the location’s layout can be reconfigured by changing display case positions. |

Wall mounted display cases are permanently or semi-permanently attached to walls. They are not flush with the wall’s surface, as are recessed display cases, however they do not take up floor space like a free standing display case would. Wall mounted display cases require less labor to install than recessed display cases and usually can be removed or have their location changed with relative ease. |

Recessed display cases are mounted in a wall so that just one side of the display case is exposed. This type of display case is particularly useful for maximizing floor space. Recessed display cases require the most labor for installation and often can not be easily moved once installed. |

Table display cases are used for displaying items meant to be viewed from the top. This style is typically free-standing, and is named for the display case’s table-like design. This is a popular option for museums, jewelry stores, and other areas where items need to be viewed from above at many different angles. |
